 Violations of international human rights and humanitarian law in Somalia may amount to war crimes, the United Nations’ human rights agency said.Members of the Islamist al-Shabaab movement in the country have carried out extrajudicial executions, planted mines and other explosive devices in civilian areas, and used civilians as human shields, said Navi Pillay, the UN Commissioner for Human Rights. Children have also been recruited by various forces.“Some of these acts might amount to war crimes,” she said in an e-mailed statement today from Geneva.
